Action Credits, MAU contracts and Meta's fee
Braze WhatsApp Pricing and Integration Cost per Message for US Teams
Braze sells WhatsApp inside an annual contract and bills every delivered message in Action Credits. Put your order form numbers into the cost check to see what WhatsApp really costs you a month, and what the same volume costs on a flat WhatsApp campaign plan.
Billing rules read from Braze's own WhatsApp documentation. Contract figures from Vendr's published Braze data.
Braze WhatsApp cost check
US recipientsBraze bills delivered messages only. Service replies get 1,000 free Meta messages per number each month, but Braze's FAQ draws credits for every delivered reply. Whether Meta's fee sits inside your credit draw or on top depends on your contract, so check the order form.
Braze does not publish a WhatsApp price. You buy WhatsApp as part of a Braze contract that is priced by monthly active users, and each delivered WhatsApp message draws Action Credits from a pool you commit to up front. Templates are billed per send, and since October 1, 2026, response messages inside the 24-hour window draw credits too.
The platform is the expensive part. Vendr's data puts the median Braze contract at $88,507 a year across 255 purchases. If your team only needs WhatsApp broadcasts to an opted-in list, a flat campaign plan costs a fraction of that, and Meta's own fee is the same $0.0034 per US utility message wherever you send from.

How Braze bills WhatsApp in Action Credits
Braze's pricing page lists four editions and says pricing scales with monthly active users, with Action Credits used "across any combination of email, SMS, in-product messaging" and other channels, WhatsApp among them. The WhatsApp rules themselves are in Braze's channel FAQ and billing docs. Here is every billing rule Braze states in public, and what it leaves to your contract.
| Billing question | What Braze states | Where it is set |
|---|---|---|
| Platform price | Not published. Scales with monthly active users across Go, Select, Pro and Enterprise | Quote |
| Template messages | Marketing, utility, authentication and limited time offer templates billed per send | WhatsApp FAQ |
| Response messages | Since October 1, 2026, consume Action Credits per delivered message inside the open window | WhatsApp FAQ |
| Undelivered messages | Not billed, including sends to users who blocked you | WhatsApp FAQ |
| Credits per WhatsApp message | Not published | Order form |
| Legacy WhatsApp contracts | Shown as credit consumption even without a credits contract | Credits Usage dashboard |
| Per-campaign credit spend | Not visible. Campaign and Canvas analytics show sends, deliveries and failures, not credits | Credits Usage dashboard |
| Currency | Meta controls the WhatsApp account currency and Braze cannot convert it | WhatsApp FAQ |
The usage dashboard does break WhatsApp credits down by country, WhatsApp Business Account, workspace, conversation category and region, so finance can see where credits went at the account level. What it cannot tell you is which Canvas burned them. If a single journey is eating your pool, you find out by elimination. For the Meta side of the math by country and category, see our WhatsApp Business API pricing page.
What Braze contracts cost per year
Braze quotes every deal, so the only public numbers come from procurement data. Vendr, which negotiates SaaS contracts for buyers, reports a median Braze contract of $88,507 a year across 255 purchases, with a low of $20,017 and a high of $477,107. Buyers saved 14% on average against the first quote.
WhatsApp does not have its own line in that number. It is a channel you add to the contract and then pay for through the credit pool. That is why a WhatsApp price list for Braze does not exist: the same message costs a different amount on every contract, depending on how many credits you bought and at what rate.
For a lifecycle team already running email, push and in-app on Braze, adding WhatsApp to the same Canvas is often worth the credits. For a team that wants WhatsApp broadcasts and nothing else, a five-figure platform commitment is the wrong unit of purchase.

Braze WhatsApp integration options and who pays Meta
Braze connects WhatsApp in two ways. The choice changes who invoices you for messages, so settle it before you sign.
Native integration with embedded signup
- You connect your Meta Business Manager and a number that meets Cloud API requirements inside Braze.
- Each WhatsApp Business Account can belong to one Braze workspace only. One workspace can hold several accounts.
- Moving a number from another provider means contacting your Braze account team before you start.
- Every delivered template, and since October 1, 2026 every delivered response message, draws Action Credits.
Bring Your Own connector with Infobip
- Braze gets access to the WhatsApp account you already hold at Infobip. Infobip is the only provider Braze names for this route.
- You pay messaging costs directly to Infobip, and you still consume Braze Action Credits per send. Two bills for one message.
- Inbound processing in both Braze and Infobip is not supported, and neither is sending from both. All sending has to come from Braze.
- Useful when Infobip already carries your OTP or support traffic. Our Infobip pricing page covers that side of the bill.
Braze WhatsApp for US audiences and the marketing template pause
Most Braze WhatsApp case studies are about promotional journeys: abandoned carts, back in stock, win-back offers. For a US list, those are marketing templates, and Meta has not delivered marketing templates to +1 numbers since April 1, 2025. The send fails with error 131049.
Braze's rule that undelivered messages are not billed protects your credits here, so a misfiring Canvas does not drain the pool. It does not rescue the journey. A US program on Braze WhatsApp today runs on utility templates (order, shipping, account and appointment updates), authentication codes and replies inside the 24-hour window.
That narrows the case for buying WhatsApp through Braze in the US. It is strongest for brands with large customer bases outside the US, where promotional WhatsApp still delivers, and for teams that want transactional WhatsApp inside the same Canvas as email and push. Details on what still goes through are on our WhatsApp marketing messages page.

Six numbers to get in writing before you sign
Because the WhatsApp price lives in your contract, the negotiation is where you control it. These are the lines that decide your real cost per message.
01
Credits per message, by category
Ask whether marketing, utility, authentication and service draw the same number of credits, and whether it varies by country.
02
Whether Meta's fee is inside the credit
Braze's public docs do not say. Get the answer in the order form so you are not paying Meta's fee twice.
03
Service reply volume after Oct 1
Response messages now draw credits. A busy support flow inside Braze can use more credits than your campaigns.
04
Overage rate and true-up
What one credit costs once the committed pool runs out, and whether unused credits roll over at renewal.
05
MAU count for WhatsApp-only contacts
Contacts you message only on WhatsApp can still push your active user count, and that drives the platform price.
06
Number migration path
If your number sits with another provider today, ask for the migration plan in writing, since Braze routes it through the account team.
Braze vs a dedicated WhatsApp campaign tool
Braze is a cross-channel engagement platform. WaBulkSend does one job, WhatsApp campaigns to an opted-in list. An honest split of where each one wins.
| Braze | WaBulkSend | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Quoted annual contract, median $88,507 a year per Vendr | $49, $99 or $299 a month, published |
| WhatsApp message cost | Action Credits per delivered send, rate set in contract | Meta's fee only, billed to your own account, no markup |
| Channels | Email, push, in-app, SMS, WhatsApp and more in one Canvas | WhatsApp only |
| Segmentation and journeys | Deep, event-driven, cross-channel. Braze wins here | Lists, tags and scheduled campaigns |
| WhatsApp Flows and catalogs | Supported | Templates with buttons and media |
| Time to first send | Sales cycle, contract, then setup | Create an account and connect your number the same day |
| Best for | Lifecycle teams already on Braze adding WhatsApp to existing journeys | Teams that need WhatsApp broadcasts without a platform commitment |
Plenty of teams run both: journeys in Braze, high-volume WhatsApp notices from a flat plan on a second number. Meta allows several numbers per business, so the two never collide. The same trade-off for Salesforce is on our Salesforce Marketing Cloud WhatsApp page, and for Klaviyo on our Klaviyo WhatsApp integration page.
How to send WhatsApp campaigns to a Braze audience without spending credits
Export the opted-in segment
Export the phone numbers and consent dates for users subscribed to your WhatsApp subscription group.
Connect a second number
Add a separate business number to WaBulkSend so campaigns and Braze journeys keep their own quality ratings.
Upload and pick a template
Import the CSV, map the variables and choose an approved utility template for US contacts.
Schedule and track
Send now or schedule, then watch delivered and read rates per campaign, which Braze's credit view does not show.
Keep consent records intact when you move a list between tools. Our guide to WhatsApp opt-in requirements covers what Meta expects you to be able to show.
Questions buyers ask about Braze WhatsApp pricing
How much does Braze WhatsApp cost?
Braze does not publish a WhatsApp price. WhatsApp is added to a Braze contract that is priced by monthly active users, and each delivered WhatsApp message draws Action Credits from a pool you buy up front. The credit rate per message is set in your order form. Vendr reports a median Braze contract of $88,507 a year across 255 purchases, ranging from $20,017 to $477,107.
Does Braze support WhatsApp?
Yes. Braze has a native WhatsApp channel connected through Meta's embedded signup, plus a Bring Your Own connector for teams whose WhatsApp account sits with Infobip. It sends templates and response messages and supports WhatsApp Flows, product messages, carousel templates and click tracking.
How does Braze bill WhatsApp messages?
In Action Credits. Braze's WhatsApp FAQ says marketing, utility, authentication and limited time offer templates are billed per send, and that since October 1, 2026 response messages sent within an open customer service window consume Action Credits per delivered message. Legacy WhatsApp contracts are also shown as credit consumption.
Does Braze charge for undelivered WhatsApp messages?
No. Braze's WhatsApp FAQ states that if a message is not delivered, you are not billed, and that messages to a user who has blocked your business do not deliver and are not billed. That matters in the US, where Meta does not deliver marketing templates to +1 numbers.
Does Braze charge for WhatsApp service messages?
Yes, since October 1, 2026. Response messages written in the Braze campaign or Canvas editor are service messages in Meta's terms, and Braze now draws Action Credits for each one delivered inside the open 24-hour window. A non-template reply counts as a service message even when the conversation began with a template. More on the change on our WhatsApp service messages page.
Can Braze send WhatsApp marketing messages to US numbers?
Braze can send them, but Meta does not deliver marketing templates to US phone numbers. The pause started April 1, 2025 and returns error 131049. Because Braze does not bill undelivered messages, the credits are not spent, but a US journey built on marketing templates reaches nobody. Utility, authentication and service messages still deliver.
Can I use my own WhatsApp provider with Braze?
Only Infobip. Braze's Bring Your Own WhatsApp connector gives Braze access to your Infobip WhatsApp account. You pay messaging costs directly to Infobip and still consume Braze Action Credits per send. Inbound handling and sending must happen in Braze only, not in both tools.
What is a cheaper alternative to Braze for WhatsApp campaigns?
If WhatsApp broadcasts are the job and cross-channel journeys are not, a dedicated WhatsApp campaign tool with a published flat plan costs far less. WaBulkSend Pro is $99 a month for up to 10,000 messages, with Meta's fee of $0.0034 per US utility message billed to your own account with no markup, so 10,000 US order updates cost $133. Compare providers on our cheapest WhatsApp API provider page.
