For US teams on Salesforce Marketing Cloud

Marketing Cloud WhatsApp Pricing and Salesforce Marketing Cloud WhatsApp Integration Costs

Salesforce does not sell WhatsApp by the message in dollars. It sells Message Credits, and a single utility template to a US number burns 4.94 of them. Pick your volume on the right to see how many credits your journeys use and what the same send costs with Meta billing you directly.

Multipliers are quoted from Salesforce's WhatsApp rate card and edition prices from Salesforce's Marketing Cloud pricing page.

Marketing Cloud WhatsApp credit estimator

Rate card Aug 2025
Credits per message 4.94
Credits used a month 123,500
Credits to buy for a year 1,482,000
Advanced Edition license $3,250.00 /mo
WaBulkSend plan plus Meta $384.00

At Meta's own $0.0034 fee, a credit has to cost less than $0.69 per 1,000 before Salesforce's usage charge undercuts sending on your own account.

Salesforce sets the dollar price of a credit in your Order Form. Our side is the monthly plan plus Meta's $0.0034 US utility fee, billed by Meta to your own account.

Marketing operations team reviewing a customer journey and WhatsApp message costs

WhatsApp in Salesforce Marketing Cloud costs two things. A license that includes the channel, which Salesforce lists on Marketing Cloud Next Advanced Edition at $3,250 per org per month billed annually, and usage paid in Salesforce Message Credits.

A utility or authentication template to a US number uses 4.94 credits and a marketing template 30.87. Inbound messages use none. Salesforce does not publish what a credit costs, so the real per-message price only appears on your Order Form. For a team that mainly broadcasts to opted-in customers, that stack is a lot to pay for one channel.

Salesforce WhatsApp message credits by country

These are the multipliers in Salesforce's WhatsApp rate card, effective August 1, 2025, for the markets US businesses message most. Each number is how many credits one delivered message consumes. The same card covers both Salesforce Message Credits for WhatsApp and the WhatsApp for Marketing variant.

Colombia15.440.250.250

Marketing costs 6.25 times utility

In the US, 30.87 credits against 4.94. That ratio is why the category Meta assigns to a template matters more to your budget than the send volume does. Meta, not Salesforce, decides the category.

Some messages are free

Inbound messages use no credits. Utility templates delivered inside an open 24 hour service window are free, and a click to WhatsApp ad opens a 72 hour window where templates cost nothing.

The dollar price is private

The card publishes multipliers only. What one credit costs is in your Order Form, and extra credits can be bought during the term. Without that number you cannot price a journey.

Which Marketing Cloud edition includes WhatsApp

Salesforce now sells two Marketing Cloud lines, and WhatsApp reaches you differently in each. On Marketing Cloud Next, the pricing page lists Growth Edition at $1,500 per org per month and Advanced Edition at $3,250 per org per month, both billed annually. "Two-Way Conversations for SMS and WhatsApp" appears in the Advanced column, not in Growth. That puts the entry ticket for WhatsApp on this line at $39,000 a year before a single credit is used.

On Marketing Cloud Engagement, the older Journey Builder product, WhatsApp is a purchased add-on. Salesforce's help documentation says you need the WhatsApp-First Business Messaging SKU before you can set it up, and if the WhatsApp Message activity is missing from Journey Builder you are told to contact your account executive.

One warning from the same documentation deserves a line in any migration plan. After you buy the WhatsApp-First Business Messaging SKU, all outbound messages, existing journeys and templates on the Sinch app stop working. Teams that started on Sinch's connector rebuild their templates, journeys and audiences rather than carry them over.

What you pay before the first send

  • $3,250 per org per month for Marketing Cloud Next Advanced, billed annually.
  • $1,500 per org per month for Growth Edition, which does not list two-way WhatsApp.
  • Order Form pricing for the WhatsApp SKU and the credit pool on Engagement.

Service teams use a different route with its own per-seat add-on. Our Salesforce WhatsApp integration page covers the Service Cloud side.

Marketing Cloud WhatsApp cost at four US volumes

Utility templates to US numbers. The credit column comes straight from the rate card. The break-even column is the credit price at which Salesforce's usage charge equals Meta's own $0.0034 fee, which is what you pay Meta when you send from your own account.

US utility messages a month Salesforce credits used Meta's fee for the same send WaBulkSend plus Meta
5,00024,700$17.00$116.00
25,000123,500$85.00$384.00
100,000494,000$340.00$639.00
250,0001,235,000$850.00$1,149.00

The quick test for your own contract: divide the price you pay per 1,000 credits by 1,000, then multiply by 4.94. If the result is above $0.0034, every US utility message costs you more through Salesforce than Meta charges for it directly. The break-even sits at about $0.69 per 1,000 credits. That is before the Advanced Edition license, which at $3,250 a month is more than the Meta fee on 950,000 US utility messages. Three US rules that change a Marketing Cloud WhatsApp budget

RULE 01

No marketing templates to +1 numbers

Meta paused marketing template delivery to US phone numbers in April 2025, and the pause still stands. The card's 30.87 US marketing multiplier buys nothing at home. Promotional journeys for US customers need a different channel or a utility message tied to a real transaction.

RULE 02

Service messages from October 1, 2026

The card lists service replies at zero credits. Meta starts charging for them on October 1, 2026, and Meta partners already publish $0.0034 per message in North America after 1,000 free per number a month. Get your account executive's answer on the zero multiplier in writing. Our WhatsApp service messages page tracks the change.

RULE 03

Explicit opt-in on record

Salesforce's documentation says WhatsApp requires explicit opt-in from customers before you send template messages, and that you keep a record of it. Numbers in your data extension also need a two-character locale code. See how to word consent on our WhatsApp opt-in page.

How the Salesforce Marketing Cloud WhatsApp integration is set up

The Engagement path, in the order Salesforce's own setup guidance runs it. Budget weeks rather than days, because the Meta side has its own approvals.

STEP 01

Buy the SKU and credits

The WhatsApp-First Business Messaging SKU plus a pool of message credits, both on your Order Form.

STEP 02

Connect Meta

Access to Meta Business Manager, a WhatsApp Business Account and a phone number registered to it.

STEP 03

Get templates approved

Build templates in Content Builder and submit them to Meta. Approval can take up to 24 hours, and edits mean resubmitting.

STEP 04

Add it to a journey

Drag the WhatsApp Message activity onto the Journey Builder canvas and point it at an opted-in audience.

Marketing Cloud vs a dedicated WhatsApp campaign tool

Marketing Cloud is a full cross-channel suite. WaBulkSend does one job: bulk WhatsApp campaigns from your own number. If WhatsApp is the only reason you are pricing Advanced Edition, this is the honest comparison.

Best forEnterprises already running cross-channel journeys on SalesforceTeams that need WhatsApp broadcasts without a suite upgrade

Plenty of US teams run both. Salesforce stays the system of record and the email engine, and WhatsApp campaigns go out from a list exported from a Salesforce report. It is the same pattern teams use with HubSpot WhatsApp integration when the WhatsApp add-on costs more than the channel earns.

How to send WhatsApp campaigns to a Salesforce list without the suite upgrade

1

Export the opted-in segment

Run a Salesforce report filtered on WhatsApp consent and export it to CSV or Excel.

2

Connect your number

Link your WhatsApp Business Account with an access token. Meta bills its fee to that account.

3

Map fields to variables

Pick an approved template and fill its variables from your report columns, then schedule the send.

4

Bring results back

Export delivered, read and failed per recipient and import the file back into Salesforce.

The file step is covered in detail on the Excel to WhatsApp page. If you are weighing an enterprise messaging API instead of a suite, Twilio WhatsApp pricing is the common benchmark US teams use.

Questions buyers ask about Marketing Cloud WhatsApp pricing

How much does WhatsApp cost in Salesforce Marketing Cloud?

There are two layers. The license: Salesforce lists two-way SMS and WhatsApp conversations on Marketing Cloud Next Advanced Edition at $3,250 per org per month, billed annually. The usage: each delivered message consumes Salesforce Message Credits, 4.94 credits for a utility or authentication message to a US number and 30.87 for a marketing message. The price of a credit is set in your Order Form.

Does Salesforce Marketing Cloud support WhatsApp?

Yes. Marketing Cloud Engagement sends WhatsApp through a WhatsApp Message activity in Journey Builder once the WhatsApp-First Business Messaging SKU is purchased, and Marketing Cloud Next lists two-way WhatsApp conversations on its Advanced Edition. You still need your own WhatsApp Business Account, a registered number and Meta-approved templates.

What are Salesforce message credits for WhatsApp?

Salesforce Message Credits are the unit Salesforce uses to bill WhatsApp usage. You buy a pool of credits on your Order Form, and every delivered template consumes a set number of them based on its category and the recipient's country code. Salesforce publishes the multipliers in its WhatsApp rate card, but not the dollar price of a credit.

How many message credits does a WhatsApp message use?

For a US recipient, Salesforce's rate card sets 4.94 credits for a utility or authentication template and 30.87 credits for a marketing template. Other countries differ: Mexico is 10.5 and 53.83, the United Kingdom 27.17 and 65.31, Germany 67.91 and 168.52. Service messages are listed at zero.

Do inbound WhatsApp messages use Salesforce message credits?

No. The rate card states that customers do not consume message credits for inbound WhatsApp messages sent by users. Utility templates delivered inside an open 24 hour customer service window are also free, and a click to WhatsApp ad opens a 72 hour free entry point window for templates.

Can Marketing Cloud send WhatsApp marketing messages to US numbers?

Not today. Salesforce's rate card still lists a US marketing multiplier of 30.87, but Meta paused delivery of marketing templates to US (+1) phone numbers in April 2025, so no provider, Salesforce included, can deliver them to US recipients. Journeys aimed at US customers have to use utility templates tied to a real transaction. More on what still works is on our WhatsApp marketing messages page.

Will Salesforce charge for WhatsApp service messages after October 1, 2026?

Salesforce's rate card, effective August 1, 2025, lists service messages at zero credits. Meta starts charging for service messages on October 1, 2026, and several Meta partners already publish $0.0034 per message in North America after 1,000 free per number each month. Ask your account executive in writing whether the zero multiplier changes.

What is the cheapest way to send WhatsApp campaigns if you use Salesforce?

If your team only needs outbound WhatsApp broadcasts, a dedicated campaign tool that lets Meta bill your own account directly avoids both the Advanced Edition license and the credit markup. For example, 25,000 US utility templates cost $384 a month on a $299 plan plus Meta's $0.0034 fee, and contacts can still be exported from Salesforce.

Send WhatsApp campaigns to your Salesforce list from $49 a month

Import the export, use your approved templates, schedule the send and see delivery for every recipient. No suite upgrade and no credit pool. Meta bills its fee to your own account at cost.
