Salesforce Digital Engagement Pricing for WhatsApp and Message Credits

Salesforce's WhatsApp channel for service teams costs $75 per user a month for Contact Center Digital on top of Service Cloud from $195 per user, plus message credits: 4.94 per US utility template. Here is the full cost and the cheaper routes.

The short answer: Salesforce's own WhatsApp channel for service teams sits in Contact Center Digital, a Service Cloud add-on listed at $75 per user per month, billed annually, on top of a Service Cloud edition that starts at $195 per user. Messages are then paid in Salesforce Message Credits: a utility or authentication template to a US number uses 4.94 credits, a marketing template 30.87, and inbound messages use none. For a five-agent team on Service Cloud Core, the licenses alone come to $1,350 a month before a single message is sent.

That is the native route. There are also AppExchange apps that connect WhatsApp to Salesforce for a fraction of that, and for teams whose real need is outbound campaigns rather than agent conversations, a dedicated sender avoids the Salesforce WhatsApp stack entirely. Every figure below comes from the vendors' own pricing pages and Salesforce's WhatsApp rate card, checked in September 2026. If you are on the marketing side of Salesforce, the Marketing Cloud WhatsApp pricing breakdown covers Journey Builder and the Marketing Cloud Next editions.

Salesforce Digital Engagement pricing for WhatsApp at a glance

Salesforce renamed the product. What buyers still search as Digital Engagement is sold today as Contact Center Digital, and the pricing page lists what it covers: chat for web, in-app messaging, SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Apple Messages for Business, LINE and bring your own channel. It is priced per user, so the cost grows with every agent who handles WhatsApp conversations.

Salesforce's pricing page adds that some editions already include digital channels and that the add-on applies to the others, so check which edition you are on before you budget the $75. What the page does not show is the price of a message. For SMS and WhatsApp usage it points to separate rate cards.

How much does WhatsApp cost per agent in Salesforce?

On the native route, WhatsApp costs $75 per agent per month for the Contact Center Digital add-on, plus that agent's Service Cloud license, plus the message credits your conversations consume. On Service Cloud Core that is $270 per agent per month in licenses before usage. The add-on also brings SMS, web chat and the other channels, so the WhatsApp share depends on how many of them you actually use.

Here is what that looks like for typical US service teams on Core, licenses only, annual billing:

Agents handling WhatsAppCore licensesContact Center DigitalMonthly totalYearly commitment
3$585$225$810$9,720
5$975$375$1,350$16,200
10$1,950$750$2,700$32,400
25$4,875$1,875$6,750$81,000

If your agents already have Service Cloud for case management, the real incremental cost of WhatsApp is the add-on column plus credits. If you would be buying Service Cloud mainly to answer WhatsApp, the full total is the honest number to put in front of finance.

What are Salesforce message credits for WhatsApp?

Salesforce Message Credits are the unit Salesforce bills WhatsApp usage in. You buy a pool on your Order Form, and each delivered template consumes a set number of credits based on the message category and the recipient's country code. Salesforce publishes the multipliers in its WhatsApp rate card, effective August 1, 2025. It does not publish what a credit costs.

The US multipliers are 4.94 credits for a utility template, 4.94 for authentication, 30.87 for marketing and 0 for service messages. A few other markets US companies message often: Canada matches the US, Mexico is 10.5 for utility and 53.83 for marketing, the United Kingdom 27.17 and 65.31. The card also sets out what does not consume credits:

  • Inbound WhatsApp messages sent by customers.
  • Utility templates delivered inside an open 24 hour customer service window.
  • Free-form service replies within that window, which the card lists at zero.
  • Templates sent inside the 72 hour free entry point window opened when a customer messages you from a click to WhatsApp ad or a Facebook Page button.

Two older rules still circulate and no longer describe the bill. Salesforce's release notes once said the 25 SMS conversations per user per month included with the Digital Engagement SKU could be used for WhatsApp conversations instead. And the card was written for conversation pricing until Salesforce moved every customer to per-message pricing on July 1, 2025, honoring existing credits under the new model. If a quote you are reading counts conversations, it predates the current card.

Will Salesforce charge for WhatsApp service messages after October 1, 2026?

Salesforce's current rate card lists service messages at zero credits, but Meta begins charging for service messages on October 1, 2026. Several Meta partners already publish $0.0034 per service message in North America after 1,000 free per phone number each month. Whether Salesforce changes its zero multiplier is not stated yet, so ask your account executive in writing before you renew. For a busy support inbox this matters more than the template rates, because service replies are most of the traffic. Our WhatsApp service messages page tracks the change and estimates what it adds to a monthly bill.

Salesforce WhatsApp integration pricing from AppExchange apps

You do not have to buy Contact Center Digital to see WhatsApp in Salesforce. Several vendors sell a connector that syncs conversations to the record, and their list prices are public. Three examples, each from the vendor's own pricing page:

VendorPricing modelPublished US message ratesWhat to watch
ValueTextAdvanced plan with WhatsApp $21 per user per month billed annually, plus a $499 per account yearly base fee and $10 per month per WhatsApp numberUtility $0.006, marketing $0.03, service $0.0138, session message out $0.005, incoming freeWhatsApp is on the Advanced plan only
QuickReply.aiSalesforce integration $50 a month on Starter and Standard, included on Plus"From $0.009 per message for U.S. numbers"Base plan prices are not shown on the page
TimelinesAI$25, $40 or $60 per seat a monthNot per message; Mass Messaging includes 500 credits per seatConnects numbers by QR code or through the official API. QR code linking runs a consumer app session and carries ban risk for bulk sends

For a five-person team, ValueText's Advanced plan comes to $1,759 a year in licenses and base fee, about $147 a month, against $1,350 a month for the native route on Core. The trade-off is depth: the native channel gives you Omni-Channel routing, bots and the service console, while an app gives you messages on the record at a much lower entry price. The full list of routes, including building on the Cloud API yourself, is on our Salesforce WhatsApp integration page.

Is Salesforce worth it just to send WhatsApp campaigns?

Usually not. Contact Center Digital is built for agents answering conversations, and it is priced per agent. If what your team actually needs is to send an order update, a renewal notice or an appointment confirmation to a list of 20,000 opted-in customers, you are paying per seat for a broadcast job that does not need seats.

The cheaper pattern many US teams use is to keep Salesforce as the system of record and send campaigns from a dedicated tool. Export the opted-in segment from a Salesforce report, import it into a WhatsApp campaign sender, send from your own WhatsApp Business number and bring the delivery results back as a file. On WaBulkSend that costs $29, $99 or $299 a month depending on volume, and Meta bills its fee directly to your own account at its published rate, $0.0034 per US utility template. Twenty thousand US utility messages a month come to $299 plus $68 in Meta fees, $367 in total, with no per-agent license involved.

That does not replace a service console. If five agents need to answer hundreds of inbound WhatsApp chats a day with routing and case history, the native channel or an AppExchange inbox is the right buy. If the need is outbound, it is not. Teams comparing costs across the whole Salesforce bill often find WhatsApp is one of several add-ons nobody has priced against usage; a tool that tracks SaaS and cloud spend makes those seat-based add-ons visible next to what they are used for.

How do I add WhatsApp to Salesforce Service Cloud?

On the native route, you buy Contact Center Digital, connect a WhatsApp Business Account and phone number in Salesforce's messaging setup, get templates approved by Meta, then route conversations to agents through Omni-Channel. Plan for Meta's side taking the longest: business verification, display name review and template approval each have their own queue.

Before you connect a number, decide whether it will also be used by a campaign tool or an app. A WhatsApp number can only be registered to one Cloud API connection at a time, so running Salesforce for service and a separate sender for campaigns usually means two numbers, or a single platform that does both. Our guide to switching WhatsApp Business API provider covers what moves with a number and what does not.

Can Salesforce send WhatsApp marketing messages to US customers?

No provider can today. Salesforce's rate card still lists a US marketing multiplier of 30.87 credits, but Meta paused delivery of marketing templates to US (+1) phone numbers in April 2025 and the pause is still in place. For US customers, WhatsApp works for utility messages tied to a transaction, authentication codes and replies inside the service window. The marketing multiplier only matters when you message customers in other countries. See WhatsApp marketing messages for what still gets delivered in the US.

What is the cheapest way to connect WhatsApp and Salesforce?

It depends on the job. For inbound service conversations with a handful of agents, an AppExchange app with a per-user price and a published per-message rate is the cheapest route that keeps chats on the record. For outbound campaigns, a dedicated sender with Meta billing your own account is cheaper still, because nothing is priced per seat. The native Contact Center Digital add-on is the most expensive of the three and makes sense when you need Salesforce's routing, bots and reporting across several channels at once.

If campaigns are the part you need, you can create a WaBulkSend account, connect your number and send to an exported Salesforce list today, or compare plans on the pricing page first.
