Brevo vs Klaviyo WhatsApp Pricing for US Ecommerce Brands
Brevo publishes its WhatsApp rates, about $0.0044 per US utility message, but only sells the credits on its $499 a month Professional plan. Klaviyo bills WhatsApp from a prepaid Mobile Messaging plan at rates it shows only in your account. Here is what each costs a US store.
The short answer: Brevo publishes its WhatsApp rates and Klaviyo does not, but Brevo makes you pay for a $499 a month Professional plan before you can buy a single WhatsApp credit. On Brevo, a utility template to a US number costs about $0.0044 (0.4 credits at $1.09 per 100). On Klaviyo, WhatsApp is paid from the same prepaid Mobile Messaging plan as SMS, at a dollar rate per message that Klaviyo shows only inside your account. For a US ecommerce brand already on Klaviyo, adding WhatsApp is usually the cheaper step. For a brand on Brevo Starter or Standard, it is a big one.
Both suites share the same hard limit at home: Meta has not delivered WhatsApp marketing templates to US phone numbers since April 1, 2025, and both vendors say so in their own help centers. So for a US list, you are really comparing the price of utility messages (order, shipping and account updates) plus whatever you send to customers abroad. The full Brevo breakdown, with a cost estimator, is on our Brevo WhatsApp pricing page.

What Brevo WhatsApp costs a US brand
Brevo prices its plans on email volume. In USD, Starter lists at $9 a month and Standard at $18, and neither can send WhatsApp. Brevo's pay as you go page is explicit that WhatsApp credits are available to purchase on Professional and Enterprise plans, and Professional starts at $499 a month (it also brings 10 seats, contact scoring, push and popups, and starts at 150,000 emails a month).
Once you are on Professional, the messages themselves are reasonably priced. Credits cost $1.09 per 100 and never expire. A US or Canadian utility template uses 0.4 credits, so 10,000 order updates cost $43.60 in credits. That is about 28 percent above Meta's own $0.0034 fee, which is the markup inside the credit. Other markets cost more: a UK utility template uses 2.6 credits (about $0.028) and a German one 6.514 (about $0.071).
Add it up for a US store sending 10,000 utility messages a month and Brevo comes to $542.60 on monthly billing. Almost all of that is the plan. Brevo's own WhatsApp API page calls the API free to use, which is true of the connection, but the plan gate is where the money goes.
What Klaviyo WhatsApp costs a US brand
Klaviyo launched WhatsApp as a native channel in 2025 and bills it through Mobile Messaging, the same pool that pays for SMS. On July 13, 2026 Klaviyo replaced credits with dollar-based rates. You still buy a Mobile Messaging plan upfront, but it is now denominated in dollars (Klaviyo's own example is "a $115 Mobile Messaging plan"), and each WhatsApp message draws down that balance at a rate set by country and template type. Existing paid subscribers move over on their first billing date after August 13, 2026.
Klaviyo does not publish those WhatsApp rates on its website. Its billing article sends you to Settings, then Billing, then Account Usage, then View WhatsApp Ratios, to see the current rate for each country. Klaviyo also says larger Mobile Messaging plans carry built-in volume discounts, so the rate you see depends on the plan you buy. That makes Klaviyo harder to price from outside, but it has one real advantage for a brand already on it: there is no separate $499 tier to unlock the channel.
Before the switch, Klaviyo published a legacy credit table. For North America outside the individually priced countries it listed 5 credits for marketing and 1 for a transactional message, with the UK at 10 and 4 and Mexico at 8 and 2. It is still useful as a guide to relative cost between markets, even though your invoice is now in dollars.
Which one costs less for WhatsApp
It depends on where you are starting.
- You already pay for Klaviyo email. Klaviyo is usually cheaper to add, because you only buy a Mobile Messaging plan sized to your sends. Open the WhatsApp rates in your account before you commit and multiply by your monthly utility volume.
- You are on Brevo Starter or Standard. WhatsApp means moving to Professional, a jump from $18 to $499 a month. Worth it only if your team will also use the other Professional features.
- You are already on Brevo Professional. Then Brevo's published $0.0044 US utility rate is a known, fair number, and credits that never expire are easy to budget.
- WhatsApp is the only channel you need. Neither suite is the cheapest route. A dedicated sender where Meta bills your own account removes both the plan gate and the credit markup.
What both suites cannot do for a US list
Meta's pause on marketing templates to +1 numbers applies to every provider. Brevo opens its pricing help article with it and Klaviyo says it plainly on its WhatsApp pages. So for US customers, WhatsApp in either suite is an order-updates and account-alerts channel, not a promotions channel. Promotions still work to Canada, Mexico, the UK and the rest of the world.
The second shared gap is the service message change. Meta starts charging for service replies on October 1, 2026. Klaviyo says it does not bill service messages today because they are not template messages, and Brevo's price list has no service column. If you answer customers inside either suite, ask each vendor in writing how replies will be billed after that date. Our WhatsApp service messages page tracks what Meta and its partners have published.
Click to WhatsApp ads are the one promotional route that still reaches US shoppers, because the customer starts the conversation. Meta gives those chats a 72 hour free window. If you plan to lean on them, you will need a steady supply of creative, and a tool that can turn a product page into ad copy and images saves a lot of back and forth with a designer.
A cheaper route when WhatsApp is the only need
Many US brands keep their email in Brevo or Klaviyo and run WhatsApp from a dedicated sender, using an exported list. On WaBulkSend, you connect your own WhatsApp Business Account, Meta bills its $0.0034 US utility fee directly to it, and the plan is $49, $99 or $299 a month (half that billed yearly). Here is the same 10,000 US utility messages a month on each route:
| Route | Plan | Messages | Monthly total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brevo Professional | $499.00 | $43.60 in credits | $542.60 |
| Klaviyo Mobile Messaging | Sized to your spend | Rate from your account | Check in app |
| WaBulkSend Pro | $99.00 | $34.00 billed by Meta | $133.00 |
The trade-off is honest: you lose the single journey that mixes email and WhatsApp in one builder. You keep template campaigns, scheduling, per-recipient delivery and read status, link click tracking and a team inbox for replies. Moving a list across takes a CSV export, which the Excel to WhatsApp page walks through step by step, and the Brevo WhatsApp alternative page covers the switch in more detail. If you want to see every provider's fee and markup in one place, the cheapest WhatsApp API provider comparison lines them up.
Questions buyers ask before choosing
Does Klaviyo have WhatsApp?
Yes. Klaviyo added WhatsApp as a native channel in 2025, built into the same flows and segments as email and SMS. It needs a verified WhatsApp Business Account connected to your Meta Business Portfolio, and it cannot send marketing templates to US numbers because of Meta's pause, which Klaviyo states on its own pages.
Is Brevo or Klaviyo cheaper for WhatsApp?
For a brand not yet on Brevo Professional, Klaviyo is usually cheaper to add, because Brevo sells WhatsApp credits only on its $499 a month Professional plan. Once you are on Professional, Brevo's published rate of about $0.0044 per US utility message is competitive, while Klaviyo's rate is only visible inside your account.
How much does a WhatsApp message cost on Klaviyo?
Klaviyo charges a dollar rate per message that depends on the recipient's country and the template type, drawn from your prepaid Mobile Messaging plan. It does not publish the rates on its website; you find them under Settings, Billing, Account Usage, View WhatsApp Ratios. Bigger plans get lower rates through built-in volume discounts.
Which Brevo plan do I need for WhatsApp?
Professional or Enterprise. Brevo's pay as you go page states that WhatsApp credits are available to purchase only on those plans. Professional lists at $499 a month in USD, or $5,388.96 a year billed annually, and Starter and Standard cannot send WhatsApp.
If WhatsApp is the only reason you are comparing these suites, you can create a WaBulkSend account, import your list and send your first campaign from your own number today.
