Braze vs Klaviyo for WhatsApp Pricing and Features

Klaviyo bills WhatsApp in dollars from a prepaid Mobile Messaging plan and does not bill service replies. Braze publishes no WhatsApp price, bills Action Credits per delivered message and, since October 1, 2026, per delivered reply. Here is which one fits a US brand.

The short answer: for WhatsApp, Klaviyo is the cheaper and more predictable buy for an ecommerce brand, and Braze is the deeper one for a large app or retail business with engineers on hand. Klaviyo bills WhatsApp in dollars from a prepaid Mobile Messaging plan, shows the rate for every country inside your account, and does not bill service replies. Braze publishes no WhatsApp price at all: messages draw Action Credits from a contract that Vendr puts at a median of $88,507 a year, and since October 1, 2026 every delivered reply inside the 24-hour window draws credits too.

Both sit on the same constraint in the US. Meta has not delivered marketing templates to +1 numbers since April 1, 2025, so on either platform a US WhatsApp program runs on order and shipping updates, one-time codes and replies, not promotions.

Braze vs Klaviyo WhatsApp pricing side by side

Every row comes from the vendor's own documentation: Braze's WhatsApp FAQ and pricing page, and Klaviyo's help center articles on WhatsApp billing (updated August 15, 2026) and on the move to per-message pricing (July 13, 2026).

The service reply row is the one that moves real money in 2026. Meta itself started charging for replies inside the window on October 1, after the first 1,000 per business number each month. Braze passes that through as credits. Klaviyo's article still says service messages are not billed, but it was last updated before the change, so get it confirmed in writing if replies are a large share of your volume. The Meta side of that change is on our WhatsApp service messages page.

How Klaviyo bills WhatsApp after the July 2026 change

Klaviyo used to bill WhatsApp in credits. On July 13, 2026 it moved every mobile channel to dollar rates. You still buy a plan before you send, but it is now a dollar amount (Klaviyo's own example is a "$115 Mobile Messaging plan") and each WhatsApp message draws it down at the rate for the recipient's country and the template type. Carrier fees stay inside the rate, and the campaign scheduler shows the estimated cost of a send in dollars before it goes out.

For a finance team this is the easiest WhatsApp bill on the market to forecast. The catch is that the rates are visible only once you have an account, so you cannot compare them against Meta's list price before you sign up. Our Klaviyo WhatsApp integration page covers what the channel can send and how opt-in works.

How Braze bills WhatsApp in Action Credits

Braze sells WhatsApp inside its platform contract. Its pricing page lists four editions (Go, Select, Pro and Enterprise) priced by monthly active users, with Action Credits used across channels. The WhatsApp FAQ adds the rules: templates are billed per send, undelivered messages and sends to users who blocked you are not billed, and response messages inside the open window consume credits per delivered message since October 1, 2026.

What it does not publish is how many credits one WhatsApp message draws, or what a credit costs. Those live in your order form, so two Braze customers can pay very different amounts for the same message. The Credits Usage dashboard breaks spend down by country, WhatsApp account and category, but not by campaign or Canvas. Our Braze WhatsApp pricing page has a cost check you can fill in from your contract.

Which one sends more kinds of WhatsApp messages

Braze, by a little. Both platforms run WhatsApp inside the same journeys as email and SMS, both support rich media and quick replies, and both handle two-way conversations. The differences are at the edges.

For a Shopify store, Klaviyo's opt-in tooling is the practical advantage. Most WhatsApp programs stall on consent, not on template features, and Klaviyo collects it at checkout and on site forms without custom work. Braze's advantage is Flows and product messages, which matter for brands selling into markets where promotional WhatsApp still delivers.

Which is better for WhatsApp to US customers

Klaviyo, for most US brands. A US WhatsApp program is mostly utility messages and replies. Klaviyo bills the first at a rate you can see and does not bill the second. Braze bills both from a credit pool on a contract that starts in five figures. Unless you are already on Braze for email and push, buying it for US WhatsApp means paying for orchestration you will not use.

Braze makes sense when WhatsApp is one channel among many in an app business that already runs Braze, or when most of your WhatsApp audience is outside the US. Both platforms change their WhatsApp billing often (Klaviyo dropped credits this year, Braze started billing replies), so if you are comparing vendors over a quarter, it helps to track changes on their pricing pages rather than rely on a quote from three months ago.

When neither Braze nor Klaviyo is the right buy

Both are full marketing platforms. If the job is sending WhatsApp reminders, order updates and campaigns to a phone list, a dedicated WhatsApp campaign tool is cheaper than either. On WaBulkSend, 10,000 US utility messages a month cost $133: the $99 Pro plan plus Meta's $0.0034 per message, billed to your own WhatsApp account with no markup and no limit on contacts. Teams often keep journeys in Braze or Klaviyo and send high-volume WhatsApp notices from a second number on a flat plan. If your list is large, compare that with our breakdown of Customer.io WhatsApp pricing, where profiles rather than messages drive the bill, and with the provider math on our cheapest WhatsApp API provider page.

Questions buyers ask about Braze vs Klaviyo for WhatsApp

Is Klaviyo cheaper than Braze for WhatsApp?

For most US brands, yes. Klaviyo sells WhatsApp from a Mobile Messaging plan bought upfront in dollars, with a per message rate by country, and does not bill service replies. Braze sells it inside an annual platform contract that Vendr puts at a median of $88,507 a year, and draws Action Credits for every delivered template and, since October 1, 2026, every delivered reply.

Does Klaviyo charge for WhatsApp service messages?

Klaviyo's WhatsApp billing article says it does not bill service messages, because they are not sent from templates. That covers replies sent through Keywords, Automations and the Inbox. A follow-up template sent from the Inbox to reopen a conversation is billed as a template. The article predates Meta's October 1, 2026 service charge, so confirm it on your account.

Does Braze publish WhatsApp pricing?

No. Braze prices its platform by monthly active users and bills WhatsApp in Action Credits, and the number of credits per message and the price per credit are set in each customer's order form. Braze's WhatsApp FAQ publishes the rules, such as undelivered messages not being billed, but not the rates.

Can Braze or Klaviyo send WhatsApp marketing messages to US numbers?

Neither can get them delivered. Meta has paused marketing templates to US phone numbers since April 1, 2025, and the send fails with error 131049 on every platform. Klaviyo's own product page says so. Utility templates, authentication codes and replies inside the 24-hour window still reach US numbers on both.
