Vonage WhatsApp Pricing: Vonage WhatsApp API Cost per Message in the US
Vonage adds a platform fee of $0.00219 to every US utility, authentication or service message, on top of Meta's own fee. A delivered US utility template costs $0.00559. Messages your customers send you are free. Work out your own monthly bill on the right.
Figures are quoted from Vonage's WhatsApp platform fee table (effective October 1, 2026) and its billing scenario explainer.
Your monthly Vonage WhatsApp bill
US, from Oct 1Replies use a $0.0034 Meta share, the US service rate Bird's published price implies. Meta has not yet published its final service rates, and the figure is identical behind every provider.
Vonage prices WhatsApp as two separate fees. Vonage's own platform fee is charged per message and set by country and category. Meta's fee is charged on top. For the North America region, which covers the United States and Canada, Vonage's fee from October 1, 2026 is $0.00219 per utility, authentication or service message, so a delivered US utility template costs $0.00559.
That makes Vonage the lowest published US rate we have found, about a third under Twilio and Bird at $0.0084. The catch is outside North America. Vonage's utility fee is $0.01421 for the UK and $0.03557 for Germany, and its marketing fee tops Twilio's flat $0.005 almost everywhere. For a US company messaging Americans, Vonage is cheap. For one messaging Europe, it usually is not.
Vonage WhatsApp API pricing for US recipients
Vonage publishes its fee and points you to Meta for the rest. Add the two columns to get what a delivered message costs.
| Message, US recipient | Vonage fee | Meta fee | All in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Utility template, outside the window | $0.00219 | $0.0034 | $0.00559 |
| Authentication template | $0.00219 | $0.0034 | $0.00559 |
| Free-form reply in the 24 hour window, from Oct 1, 2026 | $0.00219 | Meta rate pending | $0.00219 plus Meta |
| Utility template inside an open window, from Oct 1, 2026 | $0.00219 | $0.0034 | $0.00559 |
| Message in a free entry point conversation (click-to-WhatsApp ad) | $0.00232 | $0 | $0.00232 |
| Inbound message from a customer | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Marketing template | $0.01615 listed | Not deliverable to US numbers since April 1, 2025 | |
Vonage charges where Meta does not
Today Meta charges nothing for a free-form reply or a utility template sent inside an open customer service window, and nothing for the 72 hours after a customer taps a click-to-WhatsApp ad. Vonage's scenario explainer marks those in-window lines "chargeable by Vonage", and its table carries a $0.00232 referral fee for the ad window. So a Vonage bill is never zero on outbound traffic. Twilio works the same way with a higher fee, so this matters against a flat-fee provider, not against Twilio.
October 1 changes Meta's side, barely Vonage's
Vonage's North America fees for utility, authentication and marketing are identical in its July 1 and October 1, 2026 tables. Only the service fee moves, from $0.00232 to $0.00219, to match utility. The bigger change is Meta's: from October 1 it bills service replies at the utility rate with no volume tiers, and Meta still has not published the final per-market rates. Our WhatsApp service messages page tracks it.
Vonage WhatsApp pricing outside the US, against Twilio's flat fee
Plenty of US companies message customers in Mexico, Brazil or Europe too. Vonage's fee changes by market. Twilio's is $0.005 everywhere. Meta's fee sits on top of both and is the same either way, so this table is the whole difference.
| Recipient market | Vonage utility fee | Vonage marketing fee | Twilio fee, any category | Cheaper for utility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States and Canada (North America) | $0.00219 | $0.01615 | $0.005 | Vonage |
| Mexico | $0.00278 | $0.01284 | $0.005 | Vonage |
| Brazil | $0.00219 | $0.02021 | $0.005 | Vonage |
| Colombia | $0.00064 | $0.00812 | $0.005 | Vonage |
| Israel | $0.00344 | $0.02278 | $0.005 | Vonage |
| Spain | $0.00649 | $0.02282 | $0.005 | Twilio |
| United Kingdom | $0.01421 | $0.04104 | $0.005 | Twilio |
| France | $0.01936 | $0.02776 | $0.005 | Twilio |
| Germany | $0.03557 | $0.08822 | $0.005 | Twilio |
| Rest of Latin America | $0.00734 | $0.04774 | $0.005 | Twilio |
Read the marketing column carefully. In every market above, Vonage's marketing fee is higher than Twilio's $0.005, often several times higher. A US retailer that runs promotions to Mexico or Brazil, where marketing templates still deliver, pays Vonage $0.01284 or $0.02021 per message in platform fees against Twilio's $0.005. Vonage's low North America utility fee is real, but it is a regional price, not a sign that Vonage is cheap everywhere. If you sell into Europe, a provider that passes Meta's fee through with no markup, such as the one on our 360dialog pricing page, is usually the better route.
Vonage vs Twilio, Bird and 360dialog for US traffic
Each figure comes from the vendor's own pricing page or billing documentation. Meta's US share is the same $0.0034 behind all four.
| What a buyer needs | Vonage | Twilio | Bird | 360dialog |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Provider fee model | Per message, by country and category | $0.005 per message, any country | One all-in price per delivered message | Monthly fee per number, no markup on Meta |
| US utility, delivered | $0.00559 | $0.0084 | $0.0084 | $0.0034 plus the number fee |
| Inbound message | Free | $0.005 | Free | Free |
| Monthly fixed cost | None listed for WhatsApp | None | None | From €49 per number (Regular) |
| Where it wins | US and Canadian utility traffic at any volume | Europe and marketing abroad, ecosystem and SDKs | One number to budget, cheap US SMS | Very high volume, where a flat fee beats any markup |
The Vonage vs 360dialog crossover is a volume question. Vonage's fee on 20,000 US utility messages is $43.80, below 360dialog's €49 monthly number fee. Somewhere past roughly 25,000 messages a month, depending on the euro exchange rate, the flat fee becomes cheaper. We work through that flip for every provider with a public dollar rate on our cheapest WhatsApp API provider page, and the Twilio side in detail on Twilio WhatsApp pricing.
Five things the Vonage rate table does not tell you
"As low as $0.00016" is Colombia
Vonage headlines WhatsApp fees "as low as" a fraction of a cent. That is the Colombia referral cell, the smallest number in the table. The US figure is $0.00219, about fourteen times higher. Budget from the North America row.
Custom contracts keep their rates
When Vonage moved WhatsApp to per-message fees it stated that customers on previous custom pricing keep their rates and only the unit changes. The table is what a standard account pays. A negotiated account can sit above or below it.
Volume tiers count per account
Meta discounts utility and authentication fees above set monthly volumes, counted across your whole business. Vonage's disclaimer says its billing applies those tiers per WhatsApp Business Account, and differences are corrected on the next month's invoice.
Access is not guaranteed
Vonage's own WhatsApp guide says WhatsApp is in limited availability and that it cannot guarantee you will receive a WhatsApp account. Meta's business checks still decide it, and new businesses start capped at two WhatsApp numbers.
The table moves with Meta's
Vonage publishes a new fee table each time Meta changes its rate card, and it lives in a support article rather than on the main pricing page. Someone on your team should re-check it every quarter, and every time Meta announces a pricing change.
Need the whole bill, not one fee?
Our calculator keeps Meta's fee and any provider's fee on separate lines for any traffic mix.
Open the pricing calculatorWhat Vonage WhatsApp costs a US business each month
Three typical US programs, priced from October 1, 2026, with Meta's $0.0034 share included on every outbound message.
| Program | Monthly mix | Vonage fee | Vonage all in | Twilio all in |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Order and shipping alerts | 50,000 utility sent, 500 inbound, no replies | $109.50 | $279.50 | $422.50 |
| Appointment reminders with confirmations | 10,000 utility sent, 3,000 inbound, 3,000 replies | $28.47 | $72.67 | $124.20 |
| Login codes | 100,000 authentication sent, no inbound | $219.00 | $559.00 | $840.00 |
Meta is the bigger line in every row. Vonage's own fee is under 40 percent of the bill for US utility traffic, which is why changing provider saves less than the per-message fee difference suggests. Meta's volume tiers can trim the Meta share further on large utility and authentication programs. The full three-way breakdown with Bird is in our Twilio vs Vonage WhatsApp pricing article.
Vonage sells the pipe. Your team still needs the tool.
The Vonage Messages API gives you endpoints, webhooks and an invoice. It does not give a marketer a screen to upload a customer list, pick an approved template, schedule a send and see who read it. With Vonage, an engineer builds that part, and keeps it working every time Meta changes a template rule or a pricing category.
If what you actually need is template campaigns to customer lists you already own, WaBulkSend is that screen, on the official WhatsApp Business Platform. Plans are $29, $99 and $299 a month, or half that billed yearly, and Meta's per-message fee stays a separate, visible line so you can check it against the tables on this page.

Who Vonage WhatsApp pricing suits
A good fit
- US or Canadian recipients, utility and authentication traffic, any volume.
- Two-way support where customers write in a lot, since inbound carries no fee.
- Teams already on Vonage Voice, SMS or Verify that want one vendor and one invoice.
- Engineering teams happy to build the sending, template and reporting layer themselves.
A poor fit
- Marketing templates to Mexico, Brazil or Europe, where Vonage's fee runs well above $0.005.
- UK, German or French utility traffic, where Twilio's flat fee is several times lower.
- Buyers who need one public, citable price page for procurement.
- Marketing teams with no developer time, who need a campaign tool rather than an API.
Questions buyers ask about Vonage WhatsApp pricing
How much does Vonage charge for WhatsApp?
Vonage charges a platform fee on each WhatsApp message, set per country and message category, and Meta's own fee is added on top. From October 1, 2026, North America is $0.00219 for utility, authentication and service messages, $0.00232 for referral messages and $0.01615 for marketing. A delivered US utility template therefore costs $0.00559 in total.
Does Vonage charge for incoming WhatsApp messages?
No. Vonage's billing scenario explainer shows a message a customer sends you carrying no Vonage fee and no Meta fee. Charges start when you send: templates at any time, and free-form replies inside the 24 hour customer service window. Twilio, by contrast, charges its $0.005 fee on inbound and outbound messages alike, as our Twilio vs MessageBird comparison shows.
Does Vonage charge inside the 24 hour customer service window?
Yes. Vonage's explainer marks free-form replies and utility templates sent inside an open window as free from Meta but chargeable by Vonage, so its platform fee applies even where Meta charges nothing. From October 1, 2026 Meta also starts billing those service replies, at the same per-market rate as utility, so both fees apply.
Is Vonage cheaper than Twilio for WhatsApp?
For US and Canadian traffic, yes: Vonage's North America fee is $0.00219 per utility message against Twilio's flat $0.005, and Vonage does not charge inbound. For Europe it is the other way round. Vonage's utility fee is $0.01421 for the UK and $0.03557 for Germany, and its marketing fee is above $0.005 in almost every market, so Twilio is cheaper there.
Does Vonage have a monthly fee for WhatsApp?
Vonage's WhatsApp documentation describes exactly two components, a Vonage platform fee priced per message and a WhatsApp fee priced per template message. It does not list a monthly platform or seat subscription for WhatsApp messaging. Accounts on negotiated contracts can carry different terms, so check your order form if you signed one.
Is Nexmo the same as Vonage?
Yes. Nexmo was the API company Vonage acquired in 2016, and its APIs were later rebranded as the Vonage API platform. Older SDKs and integrations still use the Nexmo name, but WhatsApp is sold today through the Vonage Messages API and billed on the Vonage platform fee table.
Can you send WhatsApp marketing messages to US numbers through Vonage?
No. Meta paused delivery of marketing templates to US phone numbers on April 1, 2025, and that applies to every provider. Vonage's table still prints a $0.01615 North America marketing fee, which is relevant to Canadian recipients, not American ones. Plan US traffic on utility and authentication templates, and see which categories still deliver in our WhatsApp marketing messages guide.
Will Vonage guarantee me a WhatsApp account?
No. Vonage's own WhatsApp guide states that WhatsApp is in limited availability and that Vonage cannot guarantee you will receive a WhatsApp account. Approval still runs through Meta's business checks, and new businesses start with a limit of two WhatsApp phone numbers until Meta raises it. Our Meta business verification page covers that step.
Do existing Vonage customers get the new WhatsApp rates?
Not automatically. When Vonage moved WhatsApp to per-message platform fees it stated that customers on previous custom pricing keep their rates, with only the unit changing. The published table is what a standard account pays. If you signed a negotiated contract, your rate may be above or below it.
What does "as low as $0.00016" mean in Vonage's WhatsApp pricing?
It is the smallest cell in Vonage's fee table, the Colombia referral rate, not a typical price. For US traffic the relevant figure is $0.00219 per utility, authentication or service message, fourteen times higher. Read the North America row, not the headline minimum, when you budget a US program.
