Telnyx WhatsApp Pricing: Telnyx WhatsApp API Cost per Message vs Twilio and Vonage
Telnyx charges $0.004 per WhatsApp message with no monthly fee and passes Meta's fee through, so a US utility template costs $0.0074 delivered. Here is how that compares with Twilio and Vonage, and what the $0 markup headline leaves out.
The short answer: Telnyx charges a platform fee of $0.004 per WhatsApp message, with no monthly subscription, and passes Meta's per-message fee through on the same invoice. For a US utility template that adds up to $0.0074 delivered: $0.004 to Telnyx plus Meta's $0.0034. That is $0.001 less than Twilio's $0.0084, and about a third more than Vonage's $0.00559.
Those numbers come from Telnyx's own WhatsApp pricing page and its WhatsApp cost guide, checked on September 25, 2026. One thing on that pricing page needs reading twice. The headline says "Meta's rate. $0 markup" and shows a "$0 platform fee", but the rate table underneath lists "Platform usage $0.004 per message" as a line on your invoice. Both statements are true in a narrow sense: Telnyx does not mark up Meta's fee, and it has no monthly platform subscription. It does charge its own fee on every message. Budget for it.

Telnyx says pay-as-you-go accounts get automatic tier discounts as usage crosses thresholds, without a contract, but it does not publish where those thresholds sit or what the discounted rate is. Treat $0.004 as the price until a sales quote says otherwise.
How much does a US WhatsApp message cost on Telnyx?
A delivered US utility or authentication template costs $0.0074 on Telnyx: the $0.004 Telnyx fee plus Meta's $0.0034. Marketing templates do not deliver to US numbers at all, because Meta paused them on April 1, 2025, and that applies to every provider. So for a US sender, the realistic mix is utility, authentication and replies inside the 24 hour customer service window.
That matters because Telnyx's own cost guide uses a marketing example. It prices 50,000 messages at a "$0.025 US marketing rate" and gets $1,450 on Telnyx against $1,500 on Twilio. The arithmetic is right, but no US business can send those messages today. Here is the same 50,000 on the utility templates a US company can actually deliver:

Meta's share is identical in every row because every provider pays Meta the same rate. The whole difference between providers is their own fee, which is why the $0.001 gap between Telnyx and Twilio is worth $50 on 50,000 messages and $500 on 500,000. Is Telnyx cheaper than Twilio for WhatsApp?
Yes on outbound messages: Telnyx's platform fee is $0.004 per message and Twilio's is $0.005, and Meta's fee behind both is the same. On inbound, compare carefully. Twilio publishes that its $0.005 fee applies to messages in both directions. Telnyx's pricing page lists "$0.004 per message" without saying whether a message a customer sends you counts, and its guide does not say either.
That gap in the documentation is not a small one for support traffic. A team that receives 20,000 customer messages a month would pay Twilio $100 for them. If Telnyx charges inbound, it would be $80. If it does not, zero. Ask Telnyx to confirm inbound billing in writing before you sign, and put the answer in your cost model. Telnyx's pitch is the one bill. It sells voice, SMS, numbers, WhatsApp and its voice AI products on the same account, and its SMS starts at $0.004 per part plus carrier pass-through. If you already run US SMS or voice through Telnyx, adding WhatsApp there keeps one vendor and one invoice at a rate below Twilio's. Does Telnyx have a monthly fee for WhatsApp?
No. Telnyx lists pay-as-you-go WhatsApp with $0 platform subscription, a card on file and no contract. You pay per message and, if you buy your number from Telnyx, $1.00 a month for a local number. The committed plan starting at $500 a month is optional and buys discounted rates across every Telnyx product, not WhatsApp alone.
What Telnyx does not include
Telnyx sells an API. That is the right product for an engineering team building WhatsApp into its own software, and the wrong one for a marketing or operations team that needs to send a campaign this week. With Telnyx, somebody on your side writes the code that:
- imports a customer list and cleans duplicate or badly formatted numbers,
- submits templates to Meta and tracks their approval status,
- sends a campaign at a controlled rate that respects your messaging limit tier,
- receives delivery and read receipts on a webhook and stores them per recipient,
- shows the result to people who do not read logs.
That webhook receiver is production infrastructure. If it goes down, you lose delivery receipts and inbound replies without any error on the sending side, so it needs the same care as any customer-facing API, including uptime monitoring that checks your endpoints every 30 seconds and alerts someone when they stop answering. Most teams underestimate this part of a build more than the sending code.

Meta's side will. From October 1, 2026 Meta starts charging for free-form service replies inside the customer service window, at the same per-market rate as utility, and Telnyx passes Meta's fees through. Telnyx has not published a change to its own $0.004 platform fee, so the likely effect is a new Meta line on in-window replies rather than a higher Telnyx fee.
